When shipping internationally (EMS, Airmail, UPS, FedEx,Sea), you must declare the package type for customs.
Gift: Non-commercial items sent between individuals. Most customs now require the same documents as merchandise, including an invoice, HS code, and declared value.
Merchandise: Commercial goods. Requires a commercial invoice, HS code, and declared value, and is subject to duties and taxes.
Important: Even if marked as “Gift,” customs may treat it as merchandise if the value exceeds the duty-free allowance or if multiple identical items are shipped. Provide complete and accurate documentation to avoid delays.
International Standard Currency: Most couriers (EMS, UPS, FedEx) and customs authorities use USD as the reference currency to ensure consistent duty and tax calculations.
Ease of Tax Assessment: Declaring values in USD avoids confusion from exchange rate fluctuations and calculation errors.
Trade Practice: Commercial invoices and shipping documents are commonly issued in USD, the most widely accepted global trade currency.
Regulatory Compliance: Some customs agencies (e.g., U.S. CBP) require invoices to state values in USD, and many other countries follow similar rules.
👉 In short, declaring in USD ensures accuracy, compliance, and smooth customs clearance.

The final declaration option is up to you. If the items are for personal use, you would generally select GIFT. However, if the purpose is resale, you should select MERCHANDISE, pay the appropriate duties upon arrival, and issue the necessary documents. By default, FASHION-KOREA WAREHOUSE declares packages as GIFT

Customs Duties and Taxes
General international regulations:
• For all destinations, duties and taxes are the responsibility of the recipient.
• Charges are assessed by local customs based on the declared product type (Gift or Merchandise) and the declared value entered by the customer.
• Duties and taxes vary by destination country, origin, and item value; please consult the local customs authority for details.
• Regulations are determined by the destination customs office and may change at any time.
FASHION-KOREA WAREHOUSE is not responsible for any customs duties or taxes imposed at the destination.
Note (United States):
• In the U.S., products valued at USD 800 or less may have duties and taxes prepaid by the sender and included in the shipping cost.(in the U.S., FedEx customers with an account can pay duties and taxes on arrival. Shipments under USD 800 require no prepaid duty or tax)
• This may vary depending on origin and HS Code.

For packages arriving at FASHION-KOREA warehouse, we do not know the product prices. All customs declaration values are based on the information entered by the customer. The final decision and responsibility for the declared value rest entirely with the customer

For all products entering Korea, if the total value including shipping costs exceeds USD 150, customs duties and VAT will be applied. Before shipment, please send us a brief description via email or Contact Us, including the product price, item details, and country of purchase. When overseas purchases are shipped and arrive at the FASHION-KOREA warehouse, customs will contact us with duty and tax information, which must match the details you provided. If duties and taxes are applied, all clearance fees, duties, and taxes are the responsibility of the customer. An invoice for these charges will be sent prior to arrival.”

Tax ID for international shipping
Yes, many countries require a Tax Identification Number (TIN/Tax ID) for international shipping. Without it, customs clearance can be delayed or shipments may be returned.
How to provide your Tax ID
Please add your Tax ID to the Identification Number field in your account. Since customs regulations change frequently, entering it in advance ensures it can be used whenever required.
Countries commonly requiring a Tax ID (excluding Korea)
  • China
  • Brazil
  • Mexico
  • Italy
  • Spain
  • Turkey
  • Russia
Why it matters
  • Customs clearance: Shipments without a valid Tax ID may be delayed, returned, or incur extra fees.
  • Recipient responsibility: The recipient must provide the correct Tax ID before shipping.
  • Changing regulations: Customs rules can change frequently, so always check the destination country’s customs authority.
Summary
Countries such as China, Brazil, Mexico, Italy, Spain, Turkey, and Russia require a Tax ID for international shipping. The type of ID varies (e.g., VAT number, CPF, RFC), and failing to provide it can cause delays or returns.
